ISLAND THIRD

ISLAND THIRD

Sisters Ava and Bela's slowly monotonous everyday life on their isolated island will be changed by Doris, a woman from Zagreb. To survive the winter, the sisters advertise the rental of their apartment, to which a translator from Zagreb responds. Her arrival will initiate changes in the lives of women of different generations and contrasting characters, each with their own dreams, hopes, expectations, ups and downs.

"The approach to the theme is fresh, without the weight and pressure of fateful decisions often presented on stage, with the realization that life, perhaps, represents a journey in its entirety, but its monolithic structure here gives way to stages, defeats, and victories. At the very beginning, all three protagonists are placed in the position of passengers, not necessarily the captains of their own lives: two sisters on a perpetual vacation from life - the aging actress Ava (Branka Petrić Fehmiu) and the slightly younger Bela (Olivera Baljak), caught in the perpetual attempt to deceive their own need for something different, as well as Doris from Zagreb (Ana Vilenica), a translator of life too similar to books in whose fabric she is daily immersed.

The evolution of her presence and development from the position of an intruder, almost a domestic intruder, to a dear guest, a humanized version of a pet responsible for breaking the inevitable monotony of island daily life, is the most interesting, even the driving part of the dramatic plot in the text of Island Third."
