Sunčana Tušek was born in 1976 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She completed her education at the Josip Hatze Music School in Split under the guidance of Professor Vladimir Lukas. She graduated in cello from the Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim in 1998, studying with Professor Michael Flaksman. She furthered her studies with M. Flaksman, D. Shafran, V. Dešpalj, and others. She is a recipient of two first prizes at federal competitions in the former Yugoslavia, in 1989 as a soloist and 1990 as a member of a piano trio, as well as several republic-level awards. During her studies at the Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim, she won first prize as a member of a string quartet in 1994 and second prize as a member of a piano trio in 1998 at the Kammermusikwettbewerb der neuen Rechtsschutzversicherung chamber music competition in Mannheim. At just under 18 years old, in 1994, she successfully auditioned to become the youngest member of the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra (Philharmonisches Orchester der Stadt Heidelberg). She was an orchestra member until 1997 and then from 1999 to 2002. In the 1997/1998 season, she was a member of the orchestra of the Wiesbaden National Theatre in Hesse (Orchester des Hessischen Staatstheaters Wiesbaden). In 1996, she co-founded the Heidelberg String Quartet (Heidelberger Streichquartett) and was a permanent member until 2002. She has performed numerous concerts in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. With the Heidelberg String Quartet, she toured Japan in 1996. In 2002, she became the principal cellist of the Split Chamber Orchestra, performing for seven concert seasons and making guest appearances at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and Split Summer Festival. From 2005 to 2010, she taught cello and chamber music at the Josip Hatze Music School in Split. She has performed at several MAG (Young Academic Musicians) festivals in Split. She was the principal cellist of the Camerata chamber orchestra in Split and has also had solo performances. She was an external collaborator with the Split National Theatre Orchestra from 2003 to 2010. Since 2010, she has been a permanent Split National Theatre Orchestra member as a solo cellist/section leader. As a passionate chamber musician, she actively participates in Split's musical scene, playing in various chamber ensembles. She is a member of the Sound String Quartet and the principal cellist of the Tijardović Chamber Orchestra, founded in 2023.
