PETAR DOLIĆ

Petar Dolić's blade of grass sprouting on the plateau of the Meštrović Split villa points to the differences between the two sculptural personalities. The solidity of the classical Mediterranean lexicon contrasts with the ease of organic growth of forms. The dignified weight of Brač stone and bronze juxtaposed with the colorful shimmer of aluminum installation. Nevertheless, in every opposition, harmony can be found. Ivan Meštrović and Petar Dolić are connected by the ease of realizing sculptural ideas in various materials, interest in sacred themes, and dedication to the motif of portraiture. Engaging in dialogue with his predecessor, Dolić influences the exterior and interior of the Meštrović Gallery with subtle interventions that touch upon and diverge from artistic thoughts and periods they belong to.

Academic sculptor Petar Dolić was born in Travnik in 1975. Since 1976, he has lived in Gospić, where he completed elementary and high school education. He graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1999, under the mentorship of Prof. Šime Vulas, and pursued elective courses in Medal-making and Small Sculpture under Prof. Damir Matušić. He is a member of HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists) and ZUH (Association of Croatian Artists). He has held around thirty solo exhibitions and participated in about forty group exhibitions. He is the author of numerous sculptures in public spaces (such as "Three Suns" in Vela Lozna, Postira; "Submarine" at Zagreb Fair; "Ship on Land" near Boćarski dom in Zagreb; "Monument to Fallen Defenders" in Labin as part of the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium; "Apple" in Crni Lug as part of the Gorski Kotar Sculpture Workshop, Lokve...). Additionally, Petar Dolić is the author of Večernji list's "Millennial Rose" and the "Dean's Chain" of the Nikola Tesla University in Gospić. He has received numerous awards (from the University of Zagreb, 1st prize at the Triennial of Croatian Watercolors, 2nd prize for the monument "Storm '95"...).
